Disregard video of ballot box staffing in Ejisu by-election – EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has dismissed reports suggesting there was ballot staffing in the just ended by-election in the Ejisu Constituency in the Ashanti Region.

The dismissal is in reference to a viral video on social media depicting a man staffing a ballot box with papers at a polling station.

A statement issued by the Electoral Commission on Thursday (2 May) said the said video has nothing to do with Ghana’s Electoral Commission.

“The attention of the Electoral Commission has been drawn to a video circulating on social media depicting a polling station in an electoral area. The video shows a man stuffing ballot papers into a ballot box.

“The Commission wishes to state that the said video has nothing to do with the operations of Ghana’s Electoral Commission let alone the Ejisu by-election.”

“We urge the public to disregard the video. It is aimed at tarnishing the image and credibility of Ghana’s Electoral Commission. The events in the video did not occur in Ghana. It has nothing to do with the Electoral Commission of Ghana. In this era of misinformation and disinformation, we entreat the public to cross-check information with the Commission to ascertain the truth.” the EC statement said.
