Prevent Galamsey Into Bono Region – Lands Minister Charges Sector Agencies

Agencies of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources have been charged to by all means put up measures to prevent illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey from gaining ground in the Bono Region.

The Sector Minister, Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor gave the charge during a meeting with the sector agencies, mainly staff of the Forestry, Lands and Minerals Commissions, as well as the Office of the Administrator of Stool Lands in Sunyani in the Bono Region on Monday, 15th November, 2021.

He emphasized that in view of the prevention of galamsey in the region, no public land should be granted anywhere in Ghana except done with the express authorization of the Lands Minister which by extension is the express authorization of the President, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Addressing the welfare issues raised by some of the workers, the Minister assured the staff that arrangements are being made to ensure that their allowance is paid and paid regularly, especially with the concern of the Youth in Afforestation.

He called on the agencies to support him in his quest to curb illegal mining, protect public lands and restore the nation’s forest cover which he described as high on the agenda of the government.

The Minister expressed his utmost appreciation to the staff for their contributions and efforts so far, adding that he looks forward to their increased assistance as the Ministry prepares to lead the nation to plant 20 million more trees next year.
